COVID-19: new way of presenting the figures in Gaspesie and the Islands
The director of public health for Gaspésie and Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Dr. Iv Bonnier-Viger, specifies that the nine cases of COVID-19 infection revealed so far are all “imported” In the sense that the infected people have all traveled, including seven outside the country and the rest somewhere in Canada.
The Public Health Department does not list any new cases of infection between Saturday and Sunday. None of the nine people infected so far have been hospitalized and none of them work in the health sector or reside in a CHSLD.
In addition, Dr. Bonnier-Viger specifies that he will no longer provide data on the sharing of cases between the Gaspé and the Magdalen Islands, in order to reduce the risk of stigmatizing people who are potentially easy to identify in small communities, and so as not to create a false impression of security where no case is recorded. One of the infected people in the area is now cured.
