On the 92nd year of life died an American poet William Merwin, Pulitzer prize for poetry in 1971 and 2009. About it writes The Guardian.

William Mervyn was born in 1927 in new York. Mervin graduated from Princeton University, translated from Spanish, French and Latin, he later produced translations of the poetry of Osip Mandelstam and Pablo Neruda. During his life Mervyn has published more than 20 books.
Became famous as a writer of poetry anti-war orientation, and later began to write on the topic of mythology. In 1971 he was awarded the Pulitzer prize in poetry for his book “the Carrier of ladders”, but Mervyn refused it, stating that will, “except as an occasion to openly Express the shame that I feel many Americans [for participation in the Vietnam conflict]”.
