Scientists have discovered that a huge space rock, dubbed the “doomsday asteroid”, and accelerates its rotation.
A new study by the University of Arizona showed that the rotation of Bennu over time increases as it is moving through a vacuum, writes Metro.
Any change in the movement of a huge asteroid, as some experts believe, may lead to a change of trajectory, and hence to the collision with the Ground.
On the other hand, fast rotation means that Bennu could “lose a part of themselves or explode into pieces”, and thus losing their destructive force.
This is the conclusion the researchers came after he analyzed the data obtained using the probe OSIRIS-REx Nasa company. It turned out that the rotation of the object is accelerated for a second every century.
“Benn, a width of five football fields and weighs about 79 billion pounds in 1664 times more than “Titanic” — said a senior researcher of the laboratory of the moon and planets, University of Arizona Mike Nolan.
Previously, it was suggested that the asteroid could collide with Earth. Hypothetically, this can occur between 2175 and 2199 years. The chances of a collision are 1:2700. But the change trajectory for unknown reasons, may increase the likelihood.
According to the researchers, Benn is big enough to destroy a city, but a direct confrontation is likely to consume only part of the population. However, disasters and the cloud of dust that rises into the sky can have a negative effect on climatic conditions, and thus the survival of different species that live on our planet.

Recall that NASA’s OSIRIS-REx conveyed to Earth new images of the asteroid Bennu.
As reported by the portal “Znayu” over the Bering sea there was a second power in the past 30 years, the explosion of the meteorite.
