Metro and Loblaws increase employee wages during health crisis
The grocer Metro and the Loblaws group increased the salaries of employees of grocery stores and distribution centers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
M etro, which groups the Adonis and Super-C stores, indicated that the salary increase was effective retroactively from March 8 to May 2.
The chain said the temporary hike is a recognition of the difficult but necessary work their employees are doing for an unprecedented period.
The Loblaws group also decided to increase compensation in the company’s food markets and distribution centers, which include the Maxi, Provigo and, Pharmaprix and Intermarché banners.
In addition, several Quebec grocers have decided to install plexiglass panels near the boxes to help protect employees from the coronavirus.
