Astronomers using the Hubble space telescope reported on a sensational discovery. It was discovered on the outskirts of the milky Way dwarf galaxy, of which previously nothing was known.
Telescope “Hubble” was launched into orbit on 24 April 1990 by the crew of the ship of reusable use “Diskaveri” and since then transmitted to Earth millions of unique images, much wider representation of scientists about the structure and origin of the Universe.
As reported on the website NASA, the galaxy was discovered in the course of observations of the cluster NGC 6752. Reports Hvilya.
Globular cluster NGC 6752 is at a distance 13 thousand light-years from Earth. During observation of the cluster, the researchers realized that it hides a dwarf galaxy.
Galaxy is 2300 times farther than NGC 6752, at a distance of 30 million light years from Earth. According to the researchers, it stretches for three thousand light-years, i.e. almost 30 times less than the milky Way.
Object classified as a dwarf spheroidal galaxy, for which besides the small size are also characteristic of the absence of galactic dust and star formation processes.
Feature Bedin 1 that it is 10 times smaller than the milky Way, and 1,000 times dimmer, from which it was difficult to see. Most interesting is that its age is 13 billion years old – add another 0.8 billion and get the age of the Universe.
As a rule, dwarf spheroidal galaxies nearby galaxies or clusters, but Bedin 1 in this respect they’re quite different. The nearest to it is galaxy NGC 6744 lies about 2 million light years.
Given these characteristics, Bedin 1 can be regarded as the astronomical equivalent of the ancient “artifact” from the era of the early Universe.
