Scientists have discovered a new spider genus, representatives of which are absolutely identical to each other in size and coloring, which was named after characters from “Star wars” Imperial stormtroopers.
A previously unknown genus Stormtropis belongs to the family barotropically spiders (Paratropididae) that live in South and Central America, writes Daily Mail.
However, we found six new spiders is the first in his family that is registered in Colombia.
The family includes small and medium-sized species very similar to each other and have an amazing ability to camouflage.
As explained by arachnologists, four representatives of the new spiders are unable to fit in any existing genus, so experts had to create a new name, which refers to the soldiers of the Imperial army from the popular sci-Fi franchise.
Like stormtroopers, the spiders “are very similar to each other, with little ability to camouflage”.
“We wanted to use the name of a certain kind Paratropis, and, of course, we also wanted to pay tribute to one of the greatest sagas of all time,” explained the arachnologists.
According to their study, the newly-born spiders are similar in that they’re a bit clumsy.
Also spiders-attack “glued” to itself the dirt particles and the environment to disguise themselves from predators.
It should be noted that Cho is one of the new types of “stormtroopers” (Stormtropis muisca) was detected at an altitude of 3400 meters above sea level in the Central Andes.
But the researchers say that they have evidence of the existence of representatives Stormtropis at an altitude of over 4000 meters.
The researchers also found that males have only two claws on the legs, while other spiders barotropically on three claw feet. Males are also more elongated genitalia, and females have a tubular neck, and the body in the form of a mushroom.
The arachnologists suggested that pojavlenie a new species associated with the secondary adaptation that spiders can use additional habitats.
