Suicidal tendencies learned to predict without psychologists

Scientists have discovered new factors that lead to the development of suicidal tendencies.

Researchers at Vanderbilt University analyzed data from multiple biobanks and found that about 4 % of suicides are associated with certain genes, says Molecular Psychiatry.

In the study, was used for genetic materials 337 199 people, of which 2 433 participants tried to commit suicide.

Data obtained from a Biobank, has enabled geneticists to measure the likelihood of suicide in 24 546.

According to the scientists, between the suicide attempt and the likelihood of suicide, the researchers found a fairly high genetic correlation in the range from 70 to 100 percent.

It should be noted that the researchers also took into account factors such as insomnia, age of women at birth of first child (young mothers are more likely to commit suicide), depression, neuroticism, and a number of mental disorders.

This study found no genetic variant that demonstrated a significant relationship with suicide attempt at the level of the whole genome in both data sets.

The researchers found that a higher polygenic risk assessment — method that aggregates the effects of all genetic variants is correlated with a verified suicide attempt, and likelihood of suicide.

“The results of our study demonstrate that the genetic risk of suicide exists, we can quantitatively evaluate it using genotype data, it is inherited in two completely different samples, and we can use to deepen our understanding of the biology of suicide and other important but difficult study of signs,” explained Douglas Ruderfer (Douglas Ruderfer).

We will remind, researchers from Yale University found several types of genes that provoke suicidal intentions.

As reported by the portal “Znayu” classic video game “Tetris” reduce the anxiety and excitement while waiting.

Also “Znayu” wrote that scientists have developed a sensor that will allow you to identify in children the signs of anxiety and depression.
