The transition to the cinema

In his lifetime, Dr. Seuss was leery of the film, still smarting from the adaptation, in 1953, of the 5 000 fingers of Dr. T he regarded as a failure. For him, who considered almost unsurpassable work of Chuck Jones 66, see his Grinch move from the small to the big screen so had a low priority. After his death, is his widow, Audrey Geisel, who was in charge of managing the rights of adaptation. And pressed by many requests, she had very early indicated that she wished to wait until the technology develops to make a success of a film faithful to the universe of her deceased husband. Several filmmakers were on the ranks : Tom Shadyac (Ace Ventura), John Hughes (The Breakfast club), the brothers Farrelly (Mary at any price) and… Ron Howard, who won the bet with Jim Carrey in the title role. A dream of a kid to zebulun who was however forced to endure on a daily basis more than three hours of makeup (imagined by one of the masters of the genre, Rick Baker, who has notably worked on Star wars and Men in black) during the hundred days of filming. But these sufferings have not been in vain : The Grinch has $ 350 million dollars in revenue around the world. Three times its budget.

The first animated film to be

Eighteen after the vision of Ron Howard, The Grinch has re-emerged on the big screen but in 3D animation. The origin of this project, we find the studio Illumination, the creators of Me, ugly and nasty and All the scene that had already brought to the screen in 2012, another character of Dr. Seuss, The Lorax (with nearly $ 350 million in revenue plaétaires to the key). At the helm of this adaptation of the book original, 1957, Yarrow Cheney (co – producer of the Like animals) and Scott Mosier (writer of Funny turkeys) sign a sarabande of Christmas funny, hectic, with just enough emotion carried by the voice of Benedict Cumberbatch in V. O. and Laurent Lafitte in V. F. And like all the productions of Enlightenment, this Grinch has been created entirely in France by its subsidiary Mac Guff.
